The Duke of Sussex believes that he has a right to know what will occur if King Charles dies; however, he is not participating in any of the major decision-making processes. This is because King Charles still has trust issues with his son, and as a result, his apparent awkwardness is one of many reasons why Prince Harry has been excluded from his succession plans.

King Charles III recently celebrated Prince Harry’s 40th birthday in a surprising effort to reconcile with his estranged son. The gesture, shared through social media, marked a striking shift following a period of silence between the royal family and the Duke of Sussex, raising hopes for a potential mending of their broken relationship. Since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from royal duties, public displays of warmth between the relatives have been scarce. The heartfelt message from King Charles, however, seemed to signal a desire for forgiveness and healing.

Royal expert Katie Nicholl, writing for *Vanity Fair*, revealed that the King likely also addressed his son privately, as he genuinely loves Harry despite their differences. Reports of a private phone call between King Charles and Prince Harry on his birthday accompanied this rare encounter. Nicholl explained that the King had always intended to acknowledge his son’s achievements and that Sunday was significant for their relationship.

However, Prince William and Kate Middleton did not reach out to one another, highlighting the brothers’ ongoing conflict. Despite this hopeful signal, tensions remain. Prince Harry is set to return to the UK for a foundation event at the end of the month, but King Charles has declined to meet with him. Instead, Harry will stay at a hotel rather than a royal residence.

This decision, sources say, is due to the King’s concerns about trust, as past private discussions between father and son have leaked into the media. While King Charles is reportedly eager to keep communication open, especially about Harry’s life and his grandchildren, he remains cautious. The fear of further breaches of security poses a potential threat, leading the King to be more guarded in his dealings with Harry.

Although the birthday message offered a glimpse of trust, the path to reconciliation between King Charles and Prince Harry remains uncertain. Trust issues continue to cast a shadow over their relationship, despite the King’s brief efforts to reconnect.
