What happened in the minutes before Princess Kate’s health update

The announcement that the Princess of Wales will be attending Trooping the Colour tomorrow was released to the press shortly before it was made known to the public.

Princess Kate

Kate, the Princess of Wales, will be attending Trooping the Colour tomorrow (Saturday) in heartening news for the Royal Family and the British public.

It was unclear where Kate would attend the event after she missed the Colonel’s Review on June 8, which is the traditional rehearsal for the King’s official birthday parade on June 15. At the time, Kate, who is the colonel of the regiment, said she was sorry to miss the final rehearsal for the Trooping the Colour parade and wanted to show her support.

However, the update confirms Kate’s attendance and that she has spoken with King Charles III about the exciting event. The Princess of Wales also released a new message detailing how moved she has been by the public’s kind messages A new photo of the princess has also been released, which was taken in Windsor earlier this week.

Kate Mansey, the royal editor at The Times, revealed that the news was “so significant” that all major political parties were informed earlier today. She tweeted: “The Princess’s attendance at tomorrow’s Trooping the Colour was considered so significant that the Palace to alerted No.10 and The Cabinet Office who, in turn, have informed the opposition political parties.”

While the news was released to the public at 6pm, it was revealed to the royal.drinkfood.info and other press outlets more than an hour earlier.

It is traditional for Palace officials to give news organisations time to prepare their coverage in advance of the official announcement to the public.

Press editors and reporters received a media package containing all the information required to prepare ahead of time, including the photo and message from the Princess of Wales.

Royal officials sent similar briefings to the royal.drinkfood.info and other press outlets shortly before the announcement of Kate’s cancer diagnosis in March and King Charles’ diagnosis in early February.

In her message, Kate says she is learning to be patient and take each day as it comes as she continues her recovery.

She confirmed that the chemotherapy treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer is still ongoing but that she has started to take on a few work meetings when she can.

The Princess of Wales has not undertaken any public duties this year.

While Charles’s actual birthday is in November, Trooping the Colour has marked the ‘official’ birthday of the British monarch for over 260 years. Trooping the Colour gathers together approximately 1,400 parading soldiers, 200 horses and 400 musicians.

Last year’s Trooping the Colour was attended by the Prince and Princess of Wales, their children, Princess Anne, her husband Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh. The Duke of Kent and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester stood off to the side of the Buckingham Palace balcony.

Kate’s full personal message, which was sent to the royal.drinkfood.info, can be read in full below:

“I have been blown away by all the kind messages of support and encouragement over the last couple of months. It really has made the world of difference to William and me and has helped us both through some of the harder times.

“I am making good progress, but as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days. On those bad days you feel weak, tired and you have to give in to your body resting.

“But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well.

“My treatment is ongoing and will be for a few more months. On the days I feel well enough, it is a joy to engage with school life, spend personal time on the things that give me energy and positivity, as well as starting to do a little work from home.

“I’m looking forward to attending The King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet.

“I am learning how to be patient, especially with uncertainty. Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body, and allowing myself to take this much needed time to heal.

“Thank you so much for your continued understanding, and to all of you who have so bravely shared your stories with me.”
