Prince George is taking on the role of a protective older brother as revealed in a new image, claims an expert.

A newly released image of Prince William and his three loving children on Father’s Day shows Prince George is taking on the role of a protective big brother, an expert claims.

Princes George, 10, Princess Charlotte, nine, and Prince Louis, six, shared the sweet snap on the Prince and Princess of Wales’ social media account X.

It featured a picture of the four in a loving pose, gazing out to the sea on Norfolk beach last month with their backs to the camera.

It is said the Princess of Wales, took the photo herself, and it was subsequently released on social media on Father’s Day, along with a caption: “We love you, Papa. Happy Father’s Day. G, C & L.”

Body language expert Judi James, told the Mirror, the image shows George has taken on a protective role in his younger brother’s life.

She explained: “George and Louis are clearly growing up fast though and getting to the age where they want to show independence rather than joining the kind of pile-on pose they’ve enjoyed in the past.”

Commenting on the image, Judi added: “They stand with their arms around each other, with George’s left arm implying a trait that we can often see during their appearances now, that he is taking some of the protective role in his younger brother’s life over from his dad.”

Analysing body language further, the photo also revealed Prince Louis no longer wants to be seen as a young royal. Judi said: “Louis keeps his own left arm hanging down, suggesting a strong desire to prove he’s not a small child any more.”

All dressed in casual attire, including William wearing a cap, the picture was taken when the family visited Norfolk last month. William is standing centred, with both Louis and Charlotte either side of him. George, who will celebrate his 11th birthday next month, is standing next to his brother.

Royal fans took to social media to express their delight at the new picture of William, George, Charlotte, and Louis.

One fan commented: “Love this photo [red-heart emoji].” Another fan commented: “Beautiful. Family is everything [red-heart emoji].”

A third fan commented that this is their “favourite photo” of William and his children, with another stating that it is like they are “looking into the future together”.

Although they were previously not thought to be in attendance, George, Charlotte and Louis joined in the celebrations on Saturday to mark this year’s Trooping the Colour in London.

Commenting on what the Wales children bring to royal events, Dr Maclaran, author of Royal Fever: The British Monarchy in Consumer Culture and Professor of Marketing and Consumer Research at Royal Holloway, University of London, said: “The children add greatly to the event and symbolise the continuity and future of the monarchy.”

She added: “They, of course, also bring the ‘cute’ factor to the overall pageant which is otherwise very traditional and solemn.”

“People love it when they make faces or appear to get out of line!”

Princess Kate also made her first anticipated public appearance of the year at the annual Trooping the Colour. The princess was pictured smiling, sitting alongside her children while being driven to the Horse Guards Parade to mark the start of the event proceedings. In a change from last year, she watched the ceremony from a balcony with her children, instead of joining other senior royals on a platform.
