King Charles plans to rent out Windsor’s Royal Lodge after Prince Andrew has finally moved out, it has been claimed.

Prince Andrew moved into the 30-room home in 2004, shortly after vacating Sunninghill Park.

The monarch, who was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, is said to be planning on renting the seven-bedroom property for £1 million a year.

It is understood that the King is keen on renovating the mansion when he ousts the Duke of York – who is said to be refusing to move out.

As reported by The Sun, Andrew has reportedly declined any other offer of a room that has been put to him and is relying on his “cast-iron lease”.

Sources have shared that they think King Charles will eventually get Andrew to move out – especially if the monarch cuts off the £4 million that the Duke currently receives.

The insider said: “It makes sense for Royal Lodge to be handed back to Crown Estates, which can pay for the much-needed repairs and renovations.

“It could then be rented to earn money for them, the King’s coffers and the country rather than being a drain on everyone’s resources.”

Speaking of the home, a property expert has said: “Rental of £1 million a year is not far-fetched for a house of that size with incredible royal connections.

The King’s supposed decision to up the stakes had reportedly followed claims that Andrew could not meet the £400,000 per year upkeep.

But he has reportedly refused to leave and has explored the option of leasing the lodge to his ex-wife Fergie, as well as his two daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.

Speaking to the Mirror: “The issue with Royal Lodge is it is going to cost an awful lot of money to renovate and no one is any wiser as to how the Duke will be able to meet those expenses.

“It’s very difficult to see why Beatrice or Eugenie would want the burden of taking on the lease when they would be far better investing any money they have where they would possibly get a return.

“That certainly wouldn’t happen with Royal Lodge so one may wonder what the point of Andrew staying there is other than vanity.”

Although they officially divorced in 1996, Sarah Ferguson still resides at Royal Lodge with Andrew.

Earlier this month, Sarah responded to claims that the pair had been asked to vacate Royal Lodge. Discussing the situation on Good Morning Britain, she said: “I’m a very lucky guest… but I tend not to get involved in brothers’ discussions and I think that’s the safest place to be. Let the brothers discuss it themselves.”
