Prince William has been meeting with veterans and members of the public in Arromanches, Normandy, France, and shared an update on Kate Middleton’s health.

The 80th Anniversary Of D-Day

Prince William provided an update on Kate Middleton’s health during his poignant D-Day appearance.

As the nation marks the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings, Prince William has been engaging with veterans and the public in Arromanches, Normandy, France. The Prince of Wales honoured their “extraordinary acts of bravery and sacrifice” at the WWII commemoration. One observer on X described his address as “gut-wrenching”.

Stepping in for King Charles at the solemn D-Day ceremony, Prince William carried out his first duties as a stand-in for the monarch. King Charles, who is currently undergoing cancer treatment, was advised that attending the event would be “step too far”. Despite the challenges faced with both his father and wife’s cancer diagnoses this year, William maintained composure. He spent time with veterans at the Canadian service on Juno beach and engaged with local residents in Arromanches.

King Charles has recently updated the public about his health amid his cancer fight, assuring a D-Day veteran in Normandy that he is “doing well.”

Following her courageous announcement regarding her cancer diagnosis, the Princess of Wales has received a flood of support messages from well-wishers, and today’s event proved no exception.

Prince William shared a heartfelt moment with a veteran, expressing that the Duchess would have “loved” to be present for the commemorations as she recovers from her cancer diagnosis. The touching exchange occurred when an elderly gentleman adorned with a Union Jack flag and his war medals inquired: “I was going to ask you if your wife was getting any better?”

The Prince warmly responded: “Yes, she would have loved to have been here today. I was reminding everybody, her grandmother served at Bletchley so she would have had quite a bit in common with a few of the other ladies here who served at Bletchley but never spoke about it until the very end.”

Royal enthusiasts were moved by the interaction and quickly took to social media to share their thoughts after a video clip was posted online. One admirer commented: “Got to love this man for his respectful question about the princess.”

Another chimed in, saying: “What a lovely person he is,” while a third remarked: “So sweet that this mighty war hero asks sweetly after the health of the Princess. These are truly decent people.”

Praise for William continued, with one individual noting: “His mum would be so proud of the gentleman his is. What a charming man.”

And yet another added: “Aw she definitely would have and how wonderful to hear she is doing really well.”
