Meghan Markle and Prince Harry to miss special event amid feud with Princess Kate and Prince William

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will miss out on an upcoming special event due to their feud with Princess Kate and Prince William.

Svar Nanan-Sen, GB News’ Digital Royal Editor and Cameron Walker, Royal Correspondent, discussed the upcoming wedding of the Duke of Westminster on this week’s episode of The Royal Record podcast.

Hugh Grosvenor, 33, will marry duchess-to-be Olivia Henson in a lavish ceremony at Chester Cathedral on June 7, in what is tipped to be the wedding of the year.

The Duke of Westminster is close friends with both the Prince of Wales and Prince Harry, and the former will serve as the groom’s usher on the big day, which will see over 400 guests attend.

However, Harry will remain in the US as his son’s godfather ties the knot, despite being friends with the Duke of Westminster for many years.

The relationship between Harry and the rest of his family has been strained since he and Meghan sat down for a bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey criticising aspects of the Royal Family in 2021.

Svar commented on the possibility of whether the event would see the two brothers reconcile: “There was a lot of speculation as to whether his [the Duke of Westminster] wedding would end up being a sort of reunion for William and Harry, but that is not going to be the case. Prince William will attend, and he will also take up the role of usher at the wedding but he is expected to be the only senior member of the Royal Family in attendance.”

He continued: “Princess Kate will not be attending and the King and Queen are not expected to be there either.

“Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were invited but decided not to attend the event, and this is thought partly due to the ongoing feud with William and Catherine, as well as having to travel from America.”

Cameron added: “I think what we can take from this is that Hugh Grosvenor has mastered the art of diplomacy here, particularly when it comes to the royal feud and the brothers.

Referring to a recent report in The Times, Cameron said: “Hugh Grosvenor has had a conversation over the phone with Prince Harry to talk about the logistics of him coming over.

“It does pave the way for Prince William to be an usher. And perhaps Prince George’s a pageboy as well, without any awkward conversations at the wedding.”

The groom boasts a huge wealth of £10.1billion, topping The Sunday Times 40 Under 40 Rich List.

The duke amassed his wealth at the age of 25, when his father Gerald Grosvenor, the 6th Duke of Westminster, died unexpectedly in August 2016 from a heart attack.

Speaking of the upcoming wedding, he told The Chester Standard: “We’ve obviously got a long association with the cathedral as a family so we were here for my father’s memorial, my sister’s wedding and every Remembrance Sunday that I can attend is here.

“But I’m unbelievably excited and I also wanted to make it very clear how unbelievably helpful people have been, how supportive they’ve been so far, which I’m unbelievably grateful for because I do realise that it’s going to be a big, big thing for the city.”
