When the Princess of Wales continued her tradition of sharing a new portrait of Prince George to celebrate his birthday, we couldn’t get over how much George looks like his father, Prince William. As hands-on parents, the couple is always determined to make birthdays special in their household. Prince William recently offered a glimpse into Prince George’s future, sparking speculation about the young royal’s potential career path. While George’s destiny as second in line to the British throne is well established, his father playfully hinted at another passion that might take flight.
During what is undoubtedly a difficult period for the entire royal family, Prince William carved out some father-son time with his oldest child, Prince George, as the two were spotted at the Euros final in Berlin. When his mom announced in an emotional video message that she had been diagnosed with cancer and is undergoing a course of preventative chemotherapy, the timing was crucial and in line with her children going on their school Easter holidays. She also explained that as a family, they had needed space to come to terms with the news privately, saying, “It has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte, and Louis in a way that was appropriate for them and to reassure them that I am going to be okay.”

For any mother to have that conversation is huge, and you can imagine Charlotte and George are going to be good supports for her. Their outing to the football game highlighted how the young royal is comfortably growing into his role and his relationship with his father, even despite facing such a major challenge at a young age. Mirroring is an intense trait with William and Katherine, defining like-minded thinking and mutual respect, and the same increasingly applies to William and his young son. During a Buckingham Palace garden party, Prince William chatted with Squadron Leader Craig Lacy from the Royal Air Force. The father of three said that George would love to visit the hub as he is already a potential pilot in the making.
Reports indicate that this isn’t the first time the young prince has expressed an interest in the Royal Air Force. During a surprise visit to the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford last summer, George couldn’t hide his delight as he got to grips with the world’s largest military air show. However, this was far from his earliest enthusiastic encounter with the annual event, as George famously made his debut at the Royal International Air Tattoo all the way back in 2016 at the tender age of just 2 and a half. Yet despite his young age, the prince could already correctly identify several parts of a plane.
Gearing up to make their son’s day extra special, although Catherine has previously let slip some traditions the couple have in their household, one tradition was introduced by William’s late mother, Princess Diana, when he was young. In terms of gifts, Julia Samuel, one of Prince George’s godparents, said that she likes to present the young royal with impossible toys that are really noisy and take a lot of making, something that Prince William struggles with. Miss Samuel said, “I do to George what Diana did to us, which is given impossible toys that are really noisy and take a lot of making. William then has to spend days putting them together, and then put all the machinery together, and it makes awful tooting noises and lights flashing—all of that.”
She added that while William struggles for days on end to put together the tricky toys, the rest of the family takes great pleasure in watching him squirm, noting that this included cheeky George. She explained that it makes her laugh and it makes George laugh.
