Despite only attending Trooping the Colour on three occasions, Prince Louis has certainly made quite the impression.
Prince Louis is beloved for his cheeky and headline grabbing antics at any royal occasion, and Trooping the Colour is certainly no exception.
Although the question of his attendance hangs in the balance for 2024, Express.co.uk is celebrating today’s Colonel’s Review by bringing our readers some of Louis’ best moments at the monarch’s official birthday over the three years that he has been there.
Prince Louis has only recently celebrated his sixth birthday but he is already a favourite among Royal Family members, with many hoping to see him on the Buckingham Palace balcony as much as possible.
One upcoming event that the little royal would usually be attending is Trooping the Colour, the monarch’s official birthday celebration, which this year is being held on June 15.
Last year the whole Wales clan joined King Charles and Queen Camilla on the balcony, with Prince William and Princess Kate looking delighted to be with Louis and his older siblings, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
However this year it seems very unlikely that Kate will be able to be there as she continues to receive treatment for cancer, meaning her children may also have to miss out.
Today, June 8, will see the Colonel’s Review take place, a dress rehearsal of sorts for the main Trooping event, and until we see Louis again here are some of his highlights to enjoy.
Prince Louis was first seen at Trooping the Colour back in June 2019, during the reign of his great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II.
He would have been only 14 months old at the time, as he was born on April 23 2018.
Louis did not attend the celebrations just a few weeks after his birth as he was considered too young.
One of the key parts of the Trooping celebration is the RAF Red Arrows flypast, and little Louis seemed quite taken with the display despite his young age.
He even appears to be doing an impression of an aeroplane with his outstretched arms as mum Kate holds him in her arms here.
Perhaps even as a baby Louis was already working on his crowd-pleasing actions!
Prince William and Princess Kate looked thrilled to be able to bring their baby son to join in the festivities with the rest of his family.
Sadly the royals were not to know that 2019 would be the last proper Trooping celebration for three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The ceremony in 2020 was cancelled, replaced instead with a pared back Sovereign’s Birthday Parade at Windsor.
Then in 2021 a slightly more traditional but still subdued ceremony also took place at Windsor Castle.
The year 2022 was a particularly special one for the Royal Family, as Queen Elizabeth celebrated her Platinum Jubilee, with Trooping the Colour being held to coincide with the weekend of festivities at the beginning of June.
For Louis it was also the moment he truly made his mark as the family joker, as his face-pulling and overall cheekiness made the occasion very entertaining for all royal watchers.
Although it is impossible for us to know exactly what goes down between the royals when they are up there on the balcony, it looks here like Princess Kate could be leaning down to whisper something to her cheeky child.
Louis’ faces are certainly a stark contrast to his older sister Princess Charlotte’s behaviour, who looked angelic in her pretty blue dress.

The late Queen Elizabeth certainly seemed to enjoy what was to be her final Trooping, with the presence of her great-grandchildren naturally keeping her spirits up.
In one charming moment she appears to be having a brief exchange with Louis, looking down at him kindly and smiling at him.
Just three months later Her Late Majesty passed away while at Balmoral, at the age of 96.
The following year, 2023, marked the first Trooping the Colour with King Charles as monarch.
As part of his plans to slim down the working monarchy fewer royals are generally seen on the Palace balcony at large occasions.
However as the future King William is guaranteed an invite, and as a result Louis was back to keep his legions of fans happy.
It can be hard to tell sometimes whether Prince Louis is actually enjoying being at these events or if he simply likes being a bit of a joker.
Either way his antics will no doubt continue to keep both his family and his fans entertained for many years to come.
Louis is currently a student at Lambrook School, and no doubt is much better behaved in class.

Louis is currently fourth in line to the British throne, with his father Prince William and his older siblings George and Charlotte ahead of him.
But as he and his siblings grow up and have children he will likely slip down the line of succession.
For instance, he and his siblings have now overtaken Prince Harry in line to the crown.
