Prince Harry avoids awkward meeting with Prince William due to very specific reason

It has been claimed that Prince Harry will not attend the funeral of his uncle who died last month for a specific reason, despite Prince William possibly in attendance.

As exclusively revealed by Express.co.uk, and now followed up by the Daily Mail, the Duke of Sussex will miss the service for his uncle, Lord Robert Fellowes, “amid security concerns” it has been claimed.

Prince Harry’s team must give 28 days’ advance notice of his plans to visit the UK so that appropriate measures can be put in place.

Robert Fellowes was married to Harry’s aunt, Lady Jane, and was brother-in-law to his late mother, Princess Diana, Princess of Wales. Lord Fellowes, remained a senior figure in royal circles throughout his life and died last month on July 29 aged 82.

Harry will now therefore not be faced with an awkward meeting with Prince William, who is likely to attend the service, despite a busy schedule including taking his family to Balmoral Castle for a family reunion with King Charles and Queen Camilla.

It was thought Harry could be forced to face up to his brother for the first time following his bombshell memoir, Spare, where he laid bare their deep rift.

Details of the funeral have not been made public but it is understood that it will take place at the “end of the month” in Norfolk and will be a small funeral service for close family, followed by a private memorial for wider family and friends. There will also be plans for a public memorial service.

Harry is continuing to wage a bitter battle in the British courts over the decision by RAVEC, the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures, to discontinue with his security when he stepped down as a working royal in 2020, alongside Meghan Markle.

Despite losing his High Court challenge in February, he was granted permission to appeal in June.

While the Duke’s UK-based friends are eager to spend more time with him, the requirement to give 28 days’ notice before arriving in the country restricts his visits to special occasions or public events planned well in advance.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, the source said: “Harry didn’t have plans to visit the UK this summer so when something last-minute arises like a funeral, it becomes a very difficult situation to navigate.”

When asked if a special concession would be made for visiting the UK for unexpected events like a family funeral, a government spokesman said: “The UK Government’s protective security system is rigorous and proportionate. It is our long-standing policy not to provide detailed information on those arrangements, as doing so could compromise their integrity and affect individuals’ security.

“It would not be appropriate to comment on ongoing legal proceedings.”

Harry, in an interview for an ITV1 documentary, ‘Tabloids On Trial’, said he “won’t bring my wife back to this country” over “genuine concerns” he holds.

He said: “And whether it’s a knife or acid, these are things that are genuine concerns for me. It’s one of the reasons why I won’t bring my wife back to this country.”
