Princess Kate ‘wants to be back’ to full duties after ‘brutal year’ with cancer: ‘She is being restrained’

Princess Kate is “wanting to return” to royal duties full time but is “being restrained” as she is still receiving cancer treatment, it has been claimed.

The Princess of Wales has been absent from core royal engagements for the majority of this year, after announcing her cancer diagnosis shortly after King Charles.

In recent months, the princess confirmed she is “not out of the woods yet” but returned to the public eye at June’s Trooping the Colour, and more recently presented the Wimbledon trophy alongside daughter Princess Charlotte.

Discussing reports that the royal could be back in full time work by the Autumn, royal editor Ingrid Seward cast doubt on the claims, and said the Princess is “still receiving treatment”.

Ingrid Seward said Princess Kate is ‘still receiving cancer treatment’ following her diagnosis earlier this year

Seward told GB News: “I actually don’t think she is going to be back to full time duties by the autumn.

“Catherine is still recovering and she’s still having treatment, but we will be seeing her at big royal events.”

Noting the impact of Kate’s continued preventative chemotherapy, Seward stressed that the royal will still “mostly work from home”, and only appear at events if she is “feeling up to it”.

Seward added: “She’s still having the cancer treatment, and as she said earlier this year, she has good days and bad days.”

The Princess of Wales received a standing ovation as she returned to Wimbledon alongside daughter Charlotte and sister Pippa Middleton

Sharing her thoughts on the Prince and Princess of Wales appearing in a special video message for Team GB at the Paris Olympics, Seward said it “makes all the difference” for royal fans to see Kate in high spirits.

Seward said: “She wants to get out there, but I don’t think she’s going to be back at the daily chore of royal duties, visiting hospitals, things like that, I don’t think she’d be strong enough.

“But she looks terrific. We know she’s had a brutal year, in fact probably much, much worse than any of us can imagine.”

Detailing Princess Kate’s medical support amid her anticipated return, Seward suggested that the royal is being “restrained” by her team, despite wanting to do more public work.

Seward explained: “She’s doing what her doctors are telling her, and she’s taking it very gently. I’m sure she wants to go full steam ahead, but she is being restrained.”

Ingrid Seward casted doubt over the Princess of Wales returning to duty full time

Turning the discussion to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Seward was pressed for her verdict on the Sussexes upcoming trip to Colombia, despite having security concerns for the UK.

Defending the decision, Seward claimed that the visit will be with “good intentions”, and will help “promote” the South American country.

Seward told GB News: “The vice president of Colombia invited them because she wanted to bring attention to equality, racism, gender issues, all the things that the Sussexes claim to be interested in promoting.

“I think it was very clever of them to invite the Sussexes. Of course, they’re being used to promote the country, but in a way it’s probably symbiotic, they’re probably getting a bit of use out of it as well. So I think it’s probably a quite a good thing.”
