The Prince and Princess of Wales are said to be considering plans to renovate and extend the redbrick annexe next to Adelaide Cottage which would take them off the ‘consideration list’ for Royal Lodge.

Prince William and Princess Kate are hiding a not so little secret behind their Windsor home – an abandoned dilapidated annexe building which would provide a solution to their spatial needs.

According to a source, the Prince and Princess of Wales are said to be considering plans to renovate and extend the redbrick annexe next to Adelaide Cottage which would take them off the ‘consideration list’ for Royal Lodge.

“There is quite a considerably sized property that has just been left abandoned next to Adelaide Cottage,” said the source. “If the Wales family decides to renovate the property, it will give them plenty of space and take them off the consideration list for Royal Lodge.”

The Wales family – who moved to the Berkshire estate towards the end of summer in 2022 – currently split their time between the four bedroom cottage and their beloved Anmer Hall retreat on the Sandringham Estate.

While Adelaide Cottage provides the perfect location thanks to its proximity to Lambrook School where Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis attend, sources say the family are looking at plans to extend the currently empty annexe – thought to be worth around £1 million in its current state – to allow for more space.

This decision, however, is said to not be without complications as the source explains that the Prince of Wales is “conscious of public scrutiny” about royal spending habits and is taking a measured approach about how to personally cover the costs.

The source adds that plans for the renovation of the property have been quietly simmering in the background and now that the Princess of Wales is on the road to recovery, the Wales family are said to be waiting for the right time to initiate the plans.

“It’s currently uninhabitable and needs extensive renovation works if it were to be used,” said the source. “Discussions have been ongoing for a while about using the property as part of the overall cottage grounds, but it’s just about finding the right time to kick the project off.”

Princess Kate delighted fans when she confirmed on Monday that she has “finally completed” her preventative chemotherapy treatment after a gruelling nine-months.

In a frank admission to the public, the princess said it was a “relief” to have come to the end of her cancer journey.

The video, released on September 9, hears Kate’s voice talking about her continued road to recovery, and “remaining cancer free”.

In the announcement, never-before-seen clips of her three children she shares with Prince William were shown.
