Three more royals could miss Trooping the Colour with Princess Kate unlikely to appear

Whether the young royals will attend Trooping the Colour has not yet been announced.

Three additional members of the Royal Family could miss out on Trooping the Colour, as Princess Kate appears unlikely to attend this weekend’s ceremony.

Trooping the Colour, an event to mark the King’s official birthday, takes place in London on Saturday, with the family expected on Buckingham Palace’s iconic balcony.

Whether Princess Kate will attend or not, as she continues to recover from cancer treatment, has been widely debated by royal experts.

ITV News’ Royal Producer Lizzie Robinson says a ‘question mark’ looms over Kate’s possible appearance at the occasion, while historian Dr Tessa Dunlop believes Kate will ‘give us a wave’.

Speaking to the Right Royal Podcast, Lizzie says the attendance of Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis is also yet to be decided.

She said: “I think with the children as well, things are often not confirmed in advance, they’re all 10 and under so they take decisions on the children much closer to the time.

“So I think they will put them first, they will do what is best for the children. That is their abosolute priority in absolutely everything the Waleses do.

“I think Prince William will be there but I think they will think very carefully whether the children go if the princess is not there.”

Experts are debating which royals they expect at Trooping the Colour

While the appearance of some royals remains a doubt, the King has already confirmed he will attend Trooping the Colour as he continues his on-going cancer treatment.

He will be joined by Queen Camilla but, unlike last year, will take part in the ceremony in a carriage rather than on horseback.

Last year’s Trooping the Colour was attended by the Prince and Princess of Wales, their children, Princess Anne, her husband Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh.

The Duke of Kent and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester stood off to the side of the Buckingham Palace balcony.
