Prince William blast Trump for attacking Kate Middleton amid cancer diagnosis and divorce rumours

The revelation from a new biography that Prince William was furious at Donald Trump for his comments about Kate Middleton during the infamous topless photo scandal has brought renewed attention to a highly sensitive episode in the lives of the Prince and Princess of Wales. The incident occurred in 2012 (not 2011) while the couple was on holiday in Provence, France. A paparazzi photographer took long-lens photos of Kate sunbathing topless at a private estate. These photos were later published by the French magazine *Closer*, leading to widespread outrage and legal action by the royal couple.

Royal biographer Robert Jobson has shed light on how the situation escalated when Donald Trump, who was not yet President at the time, tweeted his opinion on the matter. Trump suggested that Kate Middleton was partly to blame for the incident, stating, “Kate Middleton is great – but she shouldn’t be sunbathing in the nude – only herself to blame.” This comment reportedly infuriated Prince William, who was already dealing with the intense media scrutiny and invasion of privacy that his wife had endured. The remark was seen as particularly insensitive and added to the distress caused by the violation of Kate’s privacy.

The situation was one of the first major clashes between the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the media, leading to a legal battle in which *Closer* magazine was ultimately fined €100,000 for breaching their privacy. Despite the legal victory, the damage had been done, and the incident left Kate feeling violated and exposed.

This was not the only time that William has been protective of Kate in the face of public criticism. The biography also touches on another incident mentioned in Prince Harry’s memoir *Spare*, where William defended Kate after Meghan Markle reportedly made a comment about Kate having “baby brain” while pregnant with Prince Louis. The remark was taken as offensive by Kate, leading to a confrontation between the two couples.

These events have contributed to the ongoing tension between Prince William, Kate, and the Sussexes, especially in the wake of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepping down as senior royals and their subsequent tell-all interviews. The strained relations have been evident, particularly since the release of Harry’s memoir, which has further deepened the rift within the royal family.

As the Princess of Wales continues her battle with an undisclosed form of cancer, these stories from the past resurface, reminding the public of the challenges she and William have faced together, both from external forces and within the complexities of their roles as senior members of the royal family.
